Digital Arts Company in Jersey
Explore your creative talents
Looking for an alternative way to broaden your knowledge? Do you want to learn more about technical advances in animation? Do you crave space and freedom to explore your creative talents?
At Motion studio we use industry standard programmes such as Dragon Frame for stop motion and Maya for animation, and Manga Studio for illustration, just to name a few. Teaching within industry standard gives the children and teenagers the tools that they can use later in life to realise their full potential through further study. We believe that these tools are not only important and fun to learn, but also instill patience and concentration in his students.
Digital Art and Animation can come from so many different places that the creative scope is endless. My training has been diverse from Natural History illustration to Graphic Design and animation and my passion for art has provided me with some amazing opportunities in my career. I have a quick and precise style that has lent itself to commissioned work for Marvel Comics, as well as illustration for children’s books. My influences come from Studio Ghibli, Pixar and Marvel which help me to bring a sense of humour and mischief into my work.
Despite the fact that technology is always changing, the traditional skills that underpin art and animation stay the same. My goal for Motion Studios is to enable our students to use their computers creatively.
I want them to learn the latest industry programs and technology in order to be able to develop their skills as artists, animators and storytellers. As well as having great fun and being able to express their creative ideas, they will learn some valuable skills which will extend their range of opportunities in the future.
My background in Fine Art and teaching blend well with David’s technical and creative skills. When David first came up with the idea of Motion Studios, I thought it was a great idea. When I came to Jersey at the age of eight, my father founded St Brelade’s College, so the idea of a family business was familiar territory. Our children are responsible for a lot of our ideas, ensuring that the content of our lessons is accessible and interesting.
For me, art is about exploration and translating your visions into pieces of work. I love to transform my doodles into elaborate artworks, first using ink and then digital processes. Being an artist doesn’t mean that you have to limit your skills and mainstream your style. At Motion Studios, students will learn skills that will enhance their ability to create memorable and exciting pieces of work. They will work in ways that will allow them to explore all of their creative talents and interests.
Visiting Artists and Facilitators
My background is in Science (Biology) and Fine Art but I have also completed a teacher training course. I have run art workshops in both primary and secondary schools as well as Higher Educational establishments.
I like to incorporate old fashion art techniques with elements from new technology and science. My work often incorporates different disciplines such as drawing, painting, sculpturing and animation.
Research and experimentation also play a big part in my work. I focus upon offering students the opportunity to explore new ideas, investigate unusual materials, learn new skills and then produce interesting art work, but also as a mum of three school aged children so I know how to ensure they have fun whilst expressing themselves and being creative.
My background is in teaching and art. I graduated as a teacher with Expressive Arts as my main subject and I worked for over 20 years as a teacher in London, Dorset and Switzerland. After moving to Jersey I completed an art degree. Since then I have been working full time as a sculptor and artist. On the island I have installed sculptures made from stainless steel, wood and copper. I experiment in a range of disciplines including: drawing, painting, photography, paper cutting and ceramics. I enjoy playing with shape and form linking my work to the natural world.
I am passionate about learning and promoting creative thinking. During a workshop I aim to put fun at the centre, promoting confidence and self esteem.
I was delighted to be invited to collaborate with Motion Studios and I’m really looking forward to the summer camp workshops.
